Why is David Bowie's *Low* so highly regarded?

I enjoy a lot of Bowie, from different periods - Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, Station to Station, Let's Dance, Earthling...but the album that keeps popping up "you have to listen to this" is Low. I've tried listening to it with an open mind, and I just do not get the appeal. What am I missing? Or am I missing anything? via http://wapmaxi.com
