PSA Comcast customers who own their own cable modem -- you may be being fraudulently charged modem rental fees

I am (without choice) a Comcast Xfinity customer. I own my own modem. Late last year, I received a form letter from them notifying me that they had noticed that I wasn't being billed for the modem they claimed they were renting to me. An hour-long phone call with four representatives later, and the $8 charge had been removed credited to my account. However, it seems that since they increased the modem rental fee to $10 per month, they've brought my modem back into their flock. And presumably I'm not the only one. Please check your bills. I'm curious how widespread this is. So far, there have been two billing cycles with the fraudulent rental charge. via /r/technology http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/2ywxqu/psa_comcast_customers_who_own_their_own_cable/ Sponsored by http://www.codeandcommand.com
